During the morning peak hours, the shortest train frequency on the Island Line can be as short as 120 seconds. The MTR ITOCHU Kinki Kawasaki train, which carries the most passengers, can carry 120,000 passengers per hour. The number of MTR trains has increased from 140 calories when the Mass Transit Railway Corporation was established to 1,863 cars.

The Light Rail system allows the MTR Corporation to maintain its position as a major operator in the public transport market in the northwestern New Territories (the picture shows the Light Rail Line 751 vehicles are stopping at Siu Hong Station)

The light rail system (also known as the Northwest Railway) was put into operation in September 1988. It is 36.2 kilometers long and has dual-track trains. There are 68 stations, 4 of which can be transferred to the West Rail Line. The Light Rail system operates in Tuen Mun, Yuen Long and Tin Shui Wai in the northwestern New Territories. The Light Rail is a regional mass transportation system that uses vehicles similar to trams that run on public road tracks. The Light Rail is part of the integrated transportation system in the Northwest New Territories and provides feeder services to the West Rail Line. The MTR Corporation currently has 140 light rail vehicles[Note 6], each of which can carry more than 200 passengers. In recent years, the punctuality rate of the Light Rail and the normal operation rate of ticketing facilities have both exceeded 99%.

The Light Rail recorded an average daily passenger volume of 450,000 at the end of 2011, making it one of the busiest light rail systems in the world.
Airport Express Line

The Airport Express connects the Hong Kong Station in Central in the Central and Western District and the Expo Station in the AsiaWorld-Expo at Chek Lap Kok in the Islands District. It is an airport link rail system. This line connects to the Hong Kong International Airport at Chek Lap Kok and operates in express mode, hence the name.
